The Rhodes baseball team split with Depauw University this afternoon to open conference play.  Rhodes took the first game 1-0 behind an outstanding pitching performance by Senior Andy Holt.  Rhodes dropped the second game 9-7 as Rhodes was unable to hold onto a 7-4 lead.  Rhodes is now 13-7 overall and 1-1 in conference.

Senior Andy Holt threw a complete game shutout in the first game.  Holt allowed 5 hits, walked one, and struck out 9.  Holt is now 4-0 on the year.  Senior Mason Mosby drove in freshman Travis Perkins in the bottom of the sixth with a base hit to centerfield.  Senior SS J.R. Bizzell was 1-2 with a walk.   Sophomore C Matt Frank was 1-2 with a double.

In the second game of the double header, Freshman Austin Carden worked the first 6 innings allowing 4 runs, none of which were earned, 6 hits, no walks, and struck out 5.  Sophomore Hunter Chandler worked the 7th allowing no runs and struck out one.  Junior Max Gertz picked up the loss, after relieving senior Charles Simmons with two outs  in the top of the 8th, working 1.1 innings.  Gertz struck out 2 and allowed 2 unearned runs.  The offense was led by senior RF Mason Mosby who was 3-4 with a homerun, 2 runs scored, and 2 RBIs.  Senior SS J.R. Bizzell was 2-5 with 2 runs scored.  Sophomore 3B Brent Lindsey was 2-5 with a RBI, run scored, and stole a base.  Sophomore C Chris Conkell was 3-5 at the plate with 2 RBIs and stole 2 bases.

Rhodes will play the final game of the three game set with Depauw tomorrow at 12:00.
